New EMP suite at SAE Byron Bay

Due to the popularity of the Electronic Music Production (EMP) certificate program and the ongoing commitment to be on the cutting edge of music technology, SAE Byron Bay has recently added a new MIDI/EMP suite to the already expansive campus facilities. This now provides students with the ultimate Pro/Consumer studio setup that emulates what top producers are currently using in the industry.

The suite houses the immensely powerful Access Virus Synthesizer, a Roland JV 1080 the ultimate soundbank, an EMU 5000 Sampler, a fully analogue Prophet 08 synthesizer by Dave Smith (one of the founders of the legendary Sequential synths), MOTU interfaces, MIDI controllers, FX units... the list goes on and there is more to come. In addition, students have access to 2 Technics SL 1200 MKII turntables to learn the tricks of a superstar DJ.

All this sits on a brand new, top spec Apple Mac, enabling you to create tracks using industry standard production software such as Logic 8, Reason 4, Ableton and Cubase.

By the time you're done with the 6 month, part-time EMP course, you will be ready to attack the dance floors or climb the charts with your tunes.

SAE INSTITUTE PARTNERS WITH FLICKERFEST 2008

SAE & FLICKERFEST LAUNCH NEW AWARD CATEGORY FOR FIRST TIME IN 13 YEARS

As part of the partnership, SAE and Flickerfest are together launching a new award category, the ‘SAE Prize for Best Use of Digital Technology’ in a Short Film. Flickerfest, which is accredited by the Academy Awards® is considered in international circles as the leading Australian competitive short film festival, and increasingly filmmakers view it as one of the main festivals on the world circuit.

SAE will be a major digital education partner at Flickerfest and the partnership will allow SAE to extend its reach to an international base of aspiring filmmakers. The young demographic of Flickerfest keeps pace with technology trends and will be receptive to the education SAE provides.

Bronwyn Kidd, director of Flickerfest, said ‘the partnership celebrates the growing use of digital technology amongst a new generation of film makers and through Flickerfest’s partnership with SAE we will be able to acknowledge expertise in the use of this digital technology encouraging short filmmakers to strive for excellence in their craft”

“The fact that we have added the new award, the ‘SAE Prize for Best Use of Digital Technology in a Short Film’ recognises the growing role of digital technology in providing the tools that enable a new generation of film makers to bring their stories to the screen” said Ms Kidd.

Flickerfest’s recognition as Australia’s only Academy® accredited short film festival not only serves to highlight the calibre of the event but the global reach that the short festival has now acquired.

The film festival event runs from 4 to 14 January at Bondi Beach, showcasing the best of short films from around the world before embarking on a 16 venue tour around Australia.
