New Green Screen Film Studio
SAE Byron Bay has recently added a complete sound stage for the teaching of digital special effects and traditional film production. Located in the Byron arts and industrial estate, the external film studio boasts a large, coved chroma color green cyc for digital matte compositing effects, as well as a newly constructed interior film set. The large green screen can accommodate full “head to toe” and group shots.
The traditional film set, comprising of a spacious lounge room and kitchen, is built to film industry standards and exposes students to a professional working environment. Fully furnished and complete with extensive set dressing, the sets function as a “turn key” installation. Students can easily learn how to break down a shooting script, how to block and rehearse talent and camera movements. Advanced lighting techniques and strategies can be more effectively demonstrated. Proper film industry protocols and practices are taught to SAE students in this real world professional environment. By providing both a special effects stage as well as an interior sound stage SAE provides students the flexibility and support to explore and push the limits of current digital production techniques |
Scholarship diary
My name is Oana and I'm currently in the process of completing my Bachelor of Film Production here at SAE Byron Bay. I'm from Romania, where I had previously studied film, but nothing from back home compares to my Australian experience at SAE. The first year was a tremendous accomplishment for me, having learned film and post-production techniques I have never even dared think about before. My studies went well and I really enjoyed my assignments while my confidence to use the film equipment and studios grew. However, my biggest accomplishment so far was being awarded the “exceptional student scholarship” for the second year of my course. I like the fact that SAE guides us through our program, but gives us the opportunity to personalise our assignments. SAE also encourages us to work in teams and experience everyday hiccups that will train us for further crew work in high-end productions. I also enjoy the multi-cultural environment here at SAE Byron Bay, which creates fresh energy and inspiration, and gives us the opportunity to graduate with an international network, that would normally take years to build up. A great example of this is the TV pilot assignment I'm directing right now; where our crew is made up of two Romanians, a Lebanese/Australian, a Swiss, a Brazilian and a Canadian. The assignment is a lot of fun and we've almost completed the shooting process, but what I loved the most was organizing and scheduling everything needed for the production. I've learned how to make professional schedules, organize budgets, castings and coordinate the team in a direction that will hopefully have good results.
I'm really enjoying SAE for the rhythm and pace of its course. And I'm positive that after two years of study, I will have learned enough to work and be involved in all the stages of film production. SAE is definitely a great institution for study, with staff that are always willing to help and assist in any matters, and I would definitely recommend it to other people that want to study Film and Audio. |
